Stop Sign

The door slams behind me
I’m cold already
I cross my arms over my chest
And start walking

The mist hits everywhere
My eyelashes are coated
The breeze sends leaves dancing

The long dark pavement stretches
Out in front of me
It’s soul mate the sidewalk
Bends and curves to match it

I squint and look up
After being mesmerized
By the pavement that is
Darkening with each raindrop

A familiar sign tells
me to stop
how many of these
will I pass in my life?

How many will I ignore?
